Club History
Founded in 1979 by students at the Loyola University of Chicago Medical School, the Chicago Westside Condors have a long-standing tradition of excellence in the Chicago Area Rugby Football Union, with consistent representation in Chicago and Midwest select sides. In 2000, John Burke went from Condor to U.S. Eagle. Due in part to superb coaching and to the raw talent of every player, the Condors enjoyed tremendous success in the 1997 through 2003 seasons, appearing twice in the National Final Four. In Fall 2003, after twenty-four years in Division II, the Condors were promoted to Division I.
In addition to their proud reputation on the pitches of the Chicago area, the Condors have an exceptionally strong tradition of touring internationally and have played rugby on every continent except Antarctica. Over the past decade, the Condors have traveled to:

The Condors are proud of their reputation both on and off the pitch. We
are a team of every nationality, color, and creed. Experience levels range from
complete newcomers to the sport to national and international players. Although most of our players
are from the USA,
Condors have also hailed from
Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, France, Hong Kong,
Ireland, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya,
I came over to Chicago in 1989 knowing not a soul, when one day
I met Doug Neary's old flame in a bar in Oak Park and she persuaded me
to come and play with the Condors R.F.C. From that day, I have never
looked back and have met the most wonderful, genuine
people. How could I ever give up this game? The
camaraderie, mutual respect and pure fun we have together
is unsurpassed.
Every day I'm with this team, I count my blessings at just how lucky I am. We've traveled the country and world (I know of no other club to have traveled like us) and always played great rugby, met great people and given our club a great reputation both socially and rugby-wise. Having played in so many clubs, I have never seen a better binding between players than at this club.
That is why I set up the Frogs (Condors social team) - to continue playing a game I love to the bitter end. Yes the body hurts at 38 and it will hurt a lot more at 48 - but if you don't follow your heart in life and do what you really love, then you haven't really lived.
Condors - wishing you a triumphant national championship bid - win or lose you will always be the best bunch of friends I could ever wish for.
Carpe Diem. Live life with love, passion and romance and kick some bottom out there on the pitch.
